Taking an interdisciplinary approach, the Cambridge IGCSE Child Development syllabus covers all stages of child development from conception to 5 years. Learners find out about currently accepted developmental norms, and about the complex range of factors that can affect child development, including genetics, and the prenatal and early environment. Learners undertake the structured observation of young children, learning to apply scientific methods in the collection, analysis and interpretation of the data they generate. Learners are also encouraged to develop an empathy with young children, and to apply their knowledge to their relationships with babies, children and parents.
