Component adjustments and guidance for components are no longer available
From, and including, the November 2023 series onwards, component adjustments and guidance for components are no longer available for any syllabus.
See our Component adjustments and guidance for components page for more information.
Component exemptions
By using a component exemption (also known as a Covid-19 exemption), candidates do not take the component but can still receive an overall syllabus grade. Exempted candidates do not sit the exam for the exempted component or complete the coursework/speaking component. You do not send any candidate work to us for the exempted component.
The deadline for applications is 21 September 2023 (at 23:59 UTC+1). Your centre must meet our eligibility criteria for closure – all details about the criteria and how to apply to use component exemptions are on our Component exemptions page.
Component exemptions will no longer be available from 2024.
Special consideration
Special consideration is a post-exam adjustment that we make to a candidate's mark. We do this to make allowances for some adverse circumstances - for example: illness, bereavement, temporary injury or disruption to an exam.
For the November 2023 exam series, we are again expanding our special consideration process for candidates who unexpectedly, for an acceptable reason, miss some components they were entered for. See our Special consideration page for more information.
