The Cambridge International Certificate for Teachers and Trainers is a practice-based qualification for continuing professional development, relevant to all teaching and learning contexts. Candidates can be teaching in Cambridge programmes, e.g. the Cambridge Primary Programme or IGCSE, or in other international, national or local programmes.
The Certificate encourages candidates to refresh their approach to teaching and learning. It is ideal for anyone in a teaching or training role who needs to innovate and to update their skills. We have based the Certificate on a range of relevant professional activities, to match the particular needs of candidates and context. As it is a short programme, the Certificate can quickly help improve thinking and practice.
Candidates can be full or part-time teachers or trainers working in all sorts of institutions, including schools, colleges, training organizations and companies, and with learners of different ages and stages, from pre-school and primary through to higher, adult and work-based education. They can be new in the teaching/training role or have years of experience.
Cambridge International Certificate for Teachers and Trainers at a glance
To achieve the Certificate, candidates must complete one practice-based assignment, consisting of evidence of three activities in their teaching. The assignment is externally assessed by Cambridge and feedback is provided to the centre and to the candidate.
The assignment is organized around three activities:
- Developing a new teaching approach
- Facilitating active learning
- Reflecting on practice
The Certificate involves approximately 90 hours of preparation, including formal professional development activities, individual and group study and preparation of the assignment. Where can the Certificate be taken?
We work in partnership with a wide range of Centres around the world where Certificate programmes are available:
- from individual schools or colleges running in-house programmes for their teachers, to public authorities looking to raise the level of teacher education across a region
- from training Centres offering external programmes to teachers and trainers, to university departments committed to improving their teaching skills
