Cambridge Professional Development for Teachers

We provide a well–established programme of professional development courses and services for teachers giving teachers the knowledge and skills they need to help students succeed in Cambridge examinations.

Cambridge offers:

• Online courses
• Training courses in every region of the world
• Access to training resources to gain accreditation such as Coursework Training Handbooks

We also offer 'Ask the Examiner' seminars, and an International Teachers Conference is held annually.

Types of courses

Face–to–face events

We run an extensive programme of short professional development courses across the world for teachers at Cambridge schools. Some workshops are run by a Cambridge examiner and others by experienced local teachers of Cambridge syllabuses. These courses offer teachers the chance to update their knowledge, learn new skills and network with other teachers.

Online training and support

Three types of online course are currently available to Cambridge Centres:

Introductory self–study
These courses provide essential information for teachers who are new to the Cambridge syllabus, and include activities that prepare them for delivering the qualification. These courses do not have a tutor. Teachers are given access to these courses for six months.

Online tutor–led
These courses are led by a Cambridge examiner. They focus on classroom practice. Participants follow a three-unit programme over six weeks and can interact and share resources with teachers from other Cambridge schools.

Online seminars
These seminars are led over a short period by an examiner and focus on specific issues such as syllabus changes or the recent examination session.

Coursework training handbooks

The handbooks provide distance training for teachers requiring accreditation to assess coursework or students’ speaking skills. They are available throughout the year.

Each handbook contains:

• Guidance on assessment
• Marked examples of candidates’ work
• Administration forms.

To gain accreditation, teachers complete a marking exercise to be sent to Cambridge for assessment.

We also offer professional qualifications for teachers who want to develop their thinking and practice.
