Smoothing progression to university in South Africa

Image of HESA Cambridge brochure Working closely with Higher Education South Africa (HESA), we have produced an easy reference guide to the minimum admission requirements for exemption into South African public universities for Bachelor Degree purposes.

Students who want to progress to university in South Africa need to hold a Senior Certificate with Matriculation Endorsement. However, HESA will grant Matriculation Exemption Certificates to holders of Cambridge International AS and A Levels provided they meet certain criteria and subject group requirements.

The guide summarises HESA’s entry criteria for students holding Cambridge qualifications. It means that Cambridge schools and learners can now see at a glance the various group, grade and subject options for Cambridge qualifications which are necessary to fulfil the HESA requirements.

For detailed entry requirements and exemption regulations, please consult the Government Notice, Higher Education Act (Act 101 of 1997) on the HESA website: http://www.hesa-enrol.ac.za/mb/regulation.pdf
