Cambridge Exams Officers eNewsletter
Exams officers play a key part in the continuing success of Cambridge schools around the world. We work very closely with Cambridge schools and build strong relationships with them. As an exams officer, you are a vital part of that relationship. Without you it would be impossible to successfully run and administer our exams.
We provide detailed information on all aspects of the Cambridge exams officer role and provide all the support you need at each stage of the process.
This support includes clear documentation detailing our exams’ administrative processes, online tutorials showing you ‘how to’ carry out key tasks and our online bank of answers to frequently asked questions from Cambridge exams officers.
Whenever you have a question about our exam administration processes you can visit our online bank of answers to frequently asked questions – Ask CIE. And if you cannot find the answer you are looking for you can contact our team of experienced staff, dedicated to providing Centres with quick, clear and accurate responses to their enquiries. You can send enquiries by telephone, e-mail, fax or letter. We aim to respond to all enquiries within two working days of receipt. If you work through another organisation to offer our exams you should contact them with any questions you have.
We produce clear administrative documentation to guide exams officers through the examination process.
You can download the latest Cambridge Handbook and Cambridge Administrative Guide from the Cambridge Exams Officers’ Guide. The handbook sets the rules and regulations for Cambridge exams and the administrative guide details the administrative processes you need to follow when running Cambridge exams. Together they contain all the information you need to manage a successful exams series. If you work in a UK school you need to use the UK versions of the handbook and administrative guide.
The other document you need is the Cambridge Guide to Making Entries. The guide tells you exactly how to enter candidates for our exams. It is only available on CIE Direct as it contains information that is specific to each Cambridge administrative zone.
You can download the majority of our administrative forms from the Cambridge Exams Officers’ Guide – just go to the relevant phase of the exams cycle. A small number of forms are only available on CIE Direct because they contain sensitive information, for example the special consideration form.
To support exams officers through each phase of the exam cycle we are producing a series of online videos. So far we have produced videos on:
Look out for news on new videos in the Cambridge Exams Officers eNewsletter.
CIE Direct is a key tool for exams officers.
Exams officers can use CIE Direct to submit and amend their entries, either directly using the online entries system or by sending examination data files via the ‘File Transfer’ section of the site.
You can also use it to view the latest bulletins from Cambridge, create centre specific timetables, control access to your candidate’s results and to download and view a wide range of administrative and support materials.
If you have intermittent internet access you can make your entries via CIE Direct Desktop. CIE Direct Desktop is an easy-to-use application for Cambridge Schools to make their entries offline. Download the application from the CIE Direct homepage.
