Cambridge Outlook 14 (2516Kb)
14 August 2008
Entry numbers in the June 2008 Cambridge International A/AS Level examination session show that Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry continue to be the top choice.
Just over half the entries in the June 2008 Cambridge International A Level examination session were for Mathematics and science subjects. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are the most popular Cambridge International A Level subjects worldwide.
Entries for CIE's International A/AS Level qualifications grew by 13 percent on the 2007 June session, as students all over the world took advantage of the flexibility and choice offered by International A/AS Levels.
‘Cambridge is very committed to choice and diversity in post-16 provision,' said Ann Puntis, CIE Chief Executive. ‘International students make strong choices, which reflect their abilities and career aspirations. It is encouraging to see the growth in volumes of entries for subjects such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.'
Entries for Cambridge International A/AS Levels Physics rose by just over 12 per cent on June 2007. In China, in particular, entries for Physics have doubled in the past 12 months, making it the second most popular International A Level after Mathematics.
Ann Puntis continued: ‘We feel that students at this level have earned the right to specialise. Cambridge International A/AS Level and Cambridge Pre-U are both designed to foster students' success in their chosen subjects.'
