Teaching and learning
Educators in Florida have been finding out more about Cambridge Global Perspectives™ at a seminar we held recently in the US.
Many Cambridge schools in the US are already offering the Cambridge Global Perspectives programme as they recognise its value in equipping high school students for college success. The programme supports schools in the development of research, collaboration, communication and critical thinking skills. It allows students to engage in interactive and stimulating material, preparing them to be strong university candidates.
Robert Monson, Director, Educational Policy Fellowship Program, Teacher’s College, Columbia University says: "One of the key advantages of Cambridge Global Perspectives is the degree to which it addresses not just multiple subjects, but the relationships between subjects. It has a practical element to it, a global element to it, a writing intensive element to it and a critical element. The programme presents a synthesis and an analytical practice that I know professors like to see. They like to see their students well prepared in those areas."
The programme has added value for US schools because it provides a structured approach to the outcomes defined in the Common Core State Standards, a set of standards which are being implemented across the US. Sherry Reach, our US Regional Manager, says: "Using methods suggested by Common Core, the Cambridge Global Perspectives programme helps students develop a deeper understanding of global topics from multiple perspectives and to evaluate arguments, research issues, and arrive at well-reasoned, and evidence-based conclusions."
The seminar in Florida gave around 30 teachers a flavour of Cambridge Global Perspectives, including a practical workshop and presentations from teachers and students already taking the course. A similar event will take place in New York on Wednesday 18 December 2013.
