Teaching and learning
Sub-Saharan Africa’s first Professional Development Conference took place over four days at Arundel School in Harare, Zimbabwe, at the start of May. Two hundred and eighty delegates from various countries in the Southern African region came to the event.
Delegates took part in subject-based extension training for Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses, including History, English Literature and French, and for Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics.
The event also included Active Learning and Assessment for Learning enrichment workshops in Cambridge Primary, English, Science, Humanities and Social Science and Mathematics.
With the exception of last year’s Cambridge Schools Conference in Johannesburg, this was the first time that these skills-based enrichment workshops have been held in Sub-Saharan Africa. They build on the introductory, one-day Learn More! events that were held in March this year in conjunction with Cambridge University Press.
The event was a great success. One delegate commented: 'Well done. Job well done. Now I am a changed teacher.'
