Teaching and learning
In May, 35 school leaders took part in our first forum in Central and Eastern Europe at the British Embassy in Bucharest, Romania.
The event was opened by Mr Adam Sambrook, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy. Delegates heard from Martin Nuttall, Regional Director, Europe, and Rhona Armour, Recognitions Manager for Europe and MENA, about our activities in the region and the recognition of Cambridge qualifications.
Delegates then split into two break-out sessions to hear about the approval process of becoming a Cambridge school, given by Burcu Benderli, Manager, Turkey, the Netherlands, the Balkans & Wider Europe, and new developments from Cambridge, given by Martin Nuttall.
After lunch Esther Chesterman, Education Manager, and Sarah Turner, Education Officer, led a session on professional development. Dr Sila Sagan told delegates about her experiences as a PDQ Programme Leader and Head of Science at Bilkent Laboratory and International Schools in Ankara, Turkey.
Delegates also heard from Dr Svetlana Belic Malinic, Director, Savremena Gimnazija, Serbia, about implementing Cambridge Global Perspectives in her school, and Diana Segarceanu, Co-founder and Head of School, Avenor College, Romania, about successfully integrating the Cambridge Secondary 1 programme with the Romanian curriculum.
Delegates came from countries across the region, including Albania, Poland, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia and Romania. There were many opportunities for delegates to discuss ideas and best practice, and to network with each other and Cambridge staff. It was a very productive day and we are very much looking forward to running a similar event in the region next year.
