Cambridge International Examinations is delighted to announce a collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science in Macedonia to introduce new curricula in maths and science for students in all state primary schools.
During a visit by Michael O’Sullivan, Chief Executive for Cambridge International Examinations, to Macedonia this week, a commitment was made by Cambridge and the Ministry of Education and Science to introduce the new curricula which will be adapted from the Cambridge Primary curriculum to suit the educational requirements of Macedonia.
This curriculum, benchmarked to international standards, is intended to develop primary school students’ skills in maths and science so they are well prepared for the next stage of their education. It will be supported by new textbooks and adapted to local educational requirements. Cambridge International Examinations will also provide training for primary school teachers in Macedonia to ensure they are well equipped to introduce the new curriculum to their students.
Michael O’Sullivan, Chief Executive of Cambridge International Examinations said: "We understand how important it is, in a global economy, for Macedonian students to be educated to the highest levels so they are able to compete locally, in Europe and internationally for the best jobs in the future. A world-class primary curriculum is an essential foundation if young people are to achieve their full potential. We at Cambridge are honoured to have been selected to assist Macedonia in making improvements which will change lives and contribute to national prosperity."
Spiro Ristovski, Minister of Education and Science, Republic of Macedonia said: "We are very proud and honoured to have Cambridge International Examinations as our partner in reforming the education system of the Republic of Macedonia. We feel that the expertise and experience that Cambridge will bring to our system will complement the endeavours of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia for offering better education to all the pupils around the country. It is our strongest commitment to improve the quality of education, especially the education in primary schools. That is why, we value this collaboration with Cambridge as a huge step for us and I am confident that with such a partner, the future of the Macedonian educational system is a bright one."
The new curricula for maths and science will be implemented in all state primary schools for students in Grades 1-3 from September 2014. It is hoped that Grades 4-6 will follow in 2015 and Grades 7-9 the following year.
