Cambridge popular at Latin American Heads Conference

Responsible International Education was the theme of the recent Latin American Heads Conference (LAHC) at the Hotel Estelar de la Fontana, Bogota, Colombia in May. CIE was delighted to be part of this dynamic conference, and marked the three-day event (May 7-9) with a well-stocked stand promoting many aspects of Cambridge International Curriculum programmes, such as Cambridge IGCSEs, Cambridge International A Levels, teacher support and Cambridge professional development.
One of the highlights of the event was the keynote speech delivered by American feminist writer, educationalist and philosopher, Nel Noddings, who is probably best known for her work on the philosophy of education, educational theory and the ethics and moral responsibility of education systems around the world.
Litty Mora, CIE Regional Representative, Latin America said Ms. Noddings' keynote speech promoted a lot of debate on international education, and CIE was delighted to be part of that dialogue.
"It's wonderful to be able to promote our services to heads of schools from across Latin America," she said, "but what is equally important is our engagement with heads of schools, and to have the chance to really listen to what they have to say about international education. CIE's philosophy has always been to position itself as a partner in education, and to be part of an ongoing open dialogue on global and international education. This conference was the ideal opportunity to listen and to learn from heads of schools in Latin America."
Ms Mora added that the conference had been a relatively intimate affair with many opportunities available to talk to heads of schools, and syllabus co-ordinators. She said the majority of delegates were aware of CIE, and many actively sought more information on CIE programmes.
The Latin American Heads Conference's inaugural event took place in 1995. LAHC has members in every Latin American country. Over 60 heads of schools attended May's event from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
