Cambridge community events benefit learners

Being part of our global education community creates opportunities for students from different schools, and different countries, to learn alongside each other.
Over the past few weeks we have supported two events for Cambridge learners – one in the UK, the other in Argentina. Both helped build students' confidence and broaden their outlook.
In Buenos Aires, we supported an International Student Leadership Symposium for Cambridge Global Perspectives students, hosted by Riverside School. More than 60 schools and teacher from 7 schools in Argentina, Chile, Germany, the UK and US, spent 4 days exploring the theme of Education and Poverty – one of the topics in our Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives course.
During the symposium the students visited schools in deprived areas of Buenos Aires to gain greater understanding of the impact that social and economic deprivation plays in access to education. Mabel Webb, Symposium Coordinator, said the experience had touched the students. "In my opinion all of them, as future leaders, have widened their awareness on the issue of how education and poverty are interrelated," she said.
In Cambridge last month we hosted a Bridging the Gap event for almost 70 Cambridge Pre-U language students from 12 UK schools. We designed the day to help students prepare for language study at university, giving them the chance to participate in university-style seminars and gain advice from lecturers including Dr Helen Swift, a tutor in French at Oxford University.
Teachers said their students were enthused by the event. One of the students said: "All the speakers were really inspiring and it has confirmed my decision to study French at university."
We will be holding three more Bridging the Gap events in the UK this year, for English, history, and science students. Check our Events calendar for more details over the coming weeks.
