Trip to Cambridge for bilingual students from Tenerife

We welcomed a class of Cambridge learners from Mayco School of English, Tenerife to our office in Cambridge on Friday 29 June. They were visiting the UK after taking Cambridge IGCSE exams in the June 2012 series.
During their visit they met Janet Morris, Director of Communications and Customer Relationships at University of Cambridge International Examinations. Cambridge IGCSE English teacher Natalia Moreno Rodriguez and Cambridge IGCSE Biology teacher Eugenio Nunez Saenz accompanied the students.
At Mayco School of English, learners study Cambridge IGCSE subjects alongside the Spanish national curriculum. This bilingual approach to education, using Cambridge IGCSE to teach the English language as well as subject knowledge, is increasingly popular in Europe.
One of the students, Bea Santana, said the approach helped her to develop English language skills. She said: "My favourite subject was Cambridge IGCSE English. We practised writing in English a lot."
Students at Mayco also follow Cambridge IGCSE courses in Biology, German, History, Spanish Language and ICT, and the programme has been extremely successful at the school. Another student, Bea Rodriguez, talked of the benefits of studying some subjects in English and commented: "I liked Cambridge IGCSE History because we learnt about what happened in the past, and it helped me learn English too."
Best wishes to the students for their forthcoming Cambridge IGCSE exam results in August.
