New Cambridge IGCSE qualification for Indonesian schools

During a visit by the Indonesian Minister of Education, Professor Dr Mohammad Nuh, to the UK this week, we made a commitment with the Indonesian Ministry of Education to offer Cambridge IGCSE Bahasa Indonesia.
The new qualification will focus on certificating students' language skills in Bahasa Indonesia, providing them with excellent preparation for the next stage of their education and university, both in Indonesia and overseas.
David Willetts, Minister for Universities and Science in the UK, said: "I welcome today's announcement by University of Cambridge International Examinations to develop a new IGCSE in Bahasa Indonesia. This is an excellent example of UK universities working in harmony with our friends and partners in Indonesia."
Ann Puntis, Chief Executive of University of Cambridge International Examinations, said: "We understand how important it is for Indonesian students in our schools to be educated to the highest levels in Bahasa Indonesia and the national culture of Indonesia. That is why today we have committed to work with our partners in Indonesia, to develop a new qualification that meets our learners’ needs and provides them with the skills and knowledge required for future success in education and in life beyond."
Cambridge IGCSE Bahasa Indonesia will be taken by students in or around Grade 10.
The number of schools offering Cambridge qualifications in Indonesia has risen significantly over the past year. 150 schools in Indonesia now offer Cambridge syllabuses and qualifications, with examination entries rising by 29% since 2011.
