Schools can now offer our ground-breaking Global Perspectives course at Cambridge International AS Level. Already popular at Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge Pre-U, Global Perspectives helps learners develop flexible communication and research skills that universities and employers really value.
The Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives syllabus is based on skills rather than on specific content, taking key themes of global relevance and interest to young people, and encouraging learners to explore them in an open and disciplined way. It helps learners meet the demands of twenty-first century study and make a successful transition to higher education. They learn to explore different and sometimes opposing perspectives on issues where there is usually no right or wrong answer.
A flexible qualification
Assessment for Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives is based on a written paper, an essay and a presentation. Learners choose a minimum of four global topics and research these through different themes. The presentation element is worth 45% of the marks, giving learners the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have acquired during their study - such as communication, engagement with different perspectives, research, analysis, and evaluation. The syllabus is now available for teaching, with first examination in June and November 2012.
Helen Eccles, Director of Development at University of Cambridge International Examinations said that the new Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives opens up more choice for schools: 'We are very excited about this latest development in our Global Perspectives suite. We realise that learners in the twenty-first century need to be prepared in a different way for further study or work - skills will be so important and we want our students to become well prepared by acquiring skills during their Cambridge studies. With a broad choice of key twenty-first century issues to discuss and consider, learners and schools can pick topics which are relevant and of interest to them.
'We know already that students become very engaged and motivated with Global Perspectives. We are looking forward to enabling them to gain an internationally recognised Cambridge Interntational AS Level qualification in this important subject.'
