CIE exhibited at the 17th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (17CCEM), in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in June. The CIE conference stand promoted its excellent work with ministries worldwide as well as its portfolio of international qualifications.
The conference was organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia. Its aim is to promote dialogue between Commonwealth Education Ministries and associated personnel.
The theme at 17CCEM was Education in the Commonwealth: Towards and Beyond Global Goals and Targets. CCEM is, this year, in its 50th year. The event attracted its highest ever attendance since it was first held in the UK in 1959.
CIE's Head of International Education (Ministries), Dr Newman Burdett who attended both the Kuala Lumpur conference and a preparatory CIE-sponsored CEC conference held in Oxford, UK in March/April 2009, said the June event had given CIE the opportunity to meet with Ministry personnel face-to-face, and to further strengthen and renew partnerships.
"CIE is committed to working in equal partnership with our colleagues from education ministries around the world, a relationship that forms the backbone of our reputation and work in global education provision and assessment," he said.
"I was delighted to be able to meet many of the delegates at the conference; to meet old friends and make new ones. This event is an important one on CIE's calendar and a fantastic opportunity for us to listen to, and share ideas with global, national and local educational stakeholders. I would like to congratulate the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia, and all partner organizations for putting on such a successful event. "
