Cambridge syllabuses for 2011 now online

27 February 2009

CIE new syllabus design

Cambridge IGCSE and International A/AS Level 2011 syllabuses are now available online for all Cambridge teachers to download.

The content of Cambridge syllabuses is regularly updated to ensure that it remains relevant and reflects the latest thinking in education.  However, as part of the latest review, the documents themselves have been given a fresh design.

The aim of the project was to make the syllabuses easier to use for existing Centres.  For schools looking at CIE qualifications for the first time, the syllabuses will help them consider how the Cambridge International Curriculum could work for them.

All Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International A/AS Level syllabuses for first examination in 2011 will have new features including:

  • A new introduction outlining the key aims of the syllabus and the skills that students will acquire
  • An 'Assessment at a glance' section - perfect for busy teachers who need a quick summary
  • Helpful headings so that you can easily find the information you need
  • Clear English throughout

The syllabus redesign project was managed at CIE by Nick Mazur, and followed research among teachers, directors of studies and CIE personnel both in the UK and overseas.   Nick Mazur explained: 'The editorial team has put the content of each syllabus into a standard order and edited them for clarity, always keeping the reader in mind.  We have aimed for a clear and concise tone of voice.

'We have focused on ensuring that the assessment process and instructions to teachers are clearly written. Teachers should be reassured that they don't have to learn a completely new syllabus. However it is important always to check the latest Circular to Centres for revisions to content.'

We hope you like the redesigned 2011 syllabuses.  They are available now on the CIE website - follow the links below to take a look!
