Darbi College in Sofia is the first Cambridge International Centre to offer Cambridge International A Levels in Bulgaria.
Ann Gibson, CIE's Regional Manager Europe, attended a special launch event at the Radisson Hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria on 14 February, where Mrs Bistra Ilieva, the founder of Darbi College was presented with the Cambridge International Centre certificate. The event was attended by students and parents as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education and the British Embassy.
Darbi College is associated with Brooke House College in the UK. The two organisations have worked in close collaboration on this project which will provide Bulgarian students with the opportunity to study a range of International A Levels in Sofia. This is the first such European venture for Brooke House College which has already established international educational partnerships with schools in China, Malaysia and Nigeria.
Mrs Ilieva said: ‘We have worked very hard to achieve this status and are proud to be the first Cambridge centre to offer A Levels in Bulgaria. We believe that we are creating opportunities for Bulgarian students to access quality international qualifications without having to leave their own country.'
Darbi College has already begun teaching its first cohort of A Level students who will be taking their AS examinations in June 2008.
