Recognition in India

CIE is always striving to increase recognition of its qualifications around the world.
Cambridge examinations are taken by over a million students every year. Many of these come from South Asia. Equal in value to the UK A and AS Levels, CIE International A and AS Levels satisfy the entry criteria for all UK universities including Oxford and Cambridge (most of which demand three A Level passes at specific grades). They are also recognised by universities of the European Union, as they are considered equal to qualifications such as the French Baccalaureate or the German Abitur.
An O Level or IGCSE Grade C (especially in Maths and English) meets the matriculation requirements in many countries. O Level or IGCSE English Grade C is of particular value to students planning to study in an English speaking institution, as it is widely recognised as satisfying the English proficiency requirement.
To help students select a university or college CIE publishes comprehensive lists of all institutions which recognise Cambridge qualifications, giving more detail on the entry criteria for certain subjects. The recognition section of the CIE website enables users to search for information based on the country and qualification they are interested in.
Val Sismey, CIE's Qualifications Development Manager, spent time in India in December 2007 meeting senior officials at a number of different Indian universities and colleges. During the visit to Delhi, Ahmadabad, Mumbai and Bangalore, Val had the opportunity to discuss the new Statement of Results which now includes a mark out of 100 for each subject. Val said that the trip had been extremely worthwhile. ‘All the officials I met were extremely welcoming, interested to learn more about CIE qualifications and keen to explain admission procedures for CIE qualified students.'
