Teaching and learning
The process of letting us know which candidates will be taking which exam is known as making entries.
Before each series we email you to ask for your estimated entries for exams/assessments that take place before the main series starts. We use the estimated entries to work out the number of question papers and examination materials you will need for these early exams/assessments.
You do not submit any candidate details with your estimated entries, so you still need to submit final entries. Submitting estimated entries does not commit you to paying any entry fees, as the fees we charge are based on your final entries.
It takes some time to gather all the information you need to make your entries. Work closely with subject teachers and heads of department to make sure you enter the right candidates for the right exams.
Watch our video to understand how the time you submit your entries determines when you will receive your question papers.

Submit your entries well in advance of the closing date so you have time to check them and submit any amendments before the deadline, avoiding any late entry fees.
Entry option codes and instructions for submitting entries are in the Cambridge Guide to Making Entries. This guide is available from the 'Support Materials' section of CIE Direct. You will also receive the guide in hard copy at the end of October for the following June series and at the end of March for the following November series. Entry open codes are specific to each series so make sure you are using the correct guide.
Once you have checked all your entry information, please make sure you submit your entries by following the instructions in section 1.5 of the Cambridge Guide to Making Entries. If you do not submit your entries, we will not be able to process them and you will not receive the necessary materials and question papers to conduct your exams.

You cannot use a venue other than your approved Centre to hold your exams unless you have our written permission to do so. If you want to use an alternative venue for any of your candidates, complete and return 'Entries - Form 5', which is available from the right-hand side of this page.
