Assistant Examiner
The role of the Assistant Examiner is to mark candidates’ scripts in a team led by a senior Examiner.
The Assistant Examiner is required to:
- Read and become familiar with the Instructions for Examiners booklet supplied by CIE shortly before each marking period.
- Attend a Co–ordination Meeting shortly after the examination (or towards the end of the period for Speaking tests), where the Principal Examiner will discuss and finalise the mark scheme with all Examiners to ensure consistent and accurate marking by all.
- Mark a specified number of scripts, in accordance with CIE requirements and the approved marking instructions, and to complete all associated administrative tasks within a specified time–scale.
- Appoint a checker, for paper based marking, to ensure that the recording, addition and transfer of marks to mark sheets has been carried out accurately. Final responsibility for the accuracy of marks on mark sheets rests with the Assistant Examiner.
- Prepare a report for the Team Leader/Principal Examiner.
- Perform all these services in accordance with CIE’s instructions and schedules.
