Assistant Moderator
For all Centre–assessed components.
The role of the Assistant Moderator is to work in a team led by a senior Moderator to re–assess coursework/assignments (written work/tapes of speaking tests/artwork etc.) already marked by teachers, to check that the marking is consistent within a Centre and across Centres.
The Assistant Moderator is required to:
- Read and become familiar with the Instructions for Moderators booklet supplied by Cambridge shortly before the marking period.
- Attend a Co–ordination Meeting to ensure the consistent and accurate moderation of Centres’ marks by all Moderators (the meeting will normally be held shortly before the deadline for the submission of the Centres’ marks for the component).
- Moderate the marking of a specified number of Centres in accordance with the moderation instructions in order to determine whether any adjustment of the marks is necessary.
- Check that the samples of those Centres’ work meet the requirements of the syllabus and, where necessary, to request further samples.
- Complete a scaling report for each Centre to record what adjustments, if any, are recommended.
- Prepare and submit a report, in accordance with the guidance given at the Co–ordination Meeting, to be sent to each Centre moderated.
- Perform all these services in accordance with Cambridge’s instructions and schedules.
It should be noted that individual roles and responsibilities may vary according to the requirements of the specific qualification, and that the Product Manager responsible for a specific syllabus may revise the role specifications accordingly.
